Sulleung
The Sulleung (順陵) is the royal tomb of Queen Gonghye (恭惠王后, 1456-1474) from the Han family. She was the lawful wife of the 9th King Seongjong. Queen Gonghye was the fourth daughter of Han Myeonghoe and the sister of Queen Jangsun. The Sulleung and the tomb of Queen Jangsun, the Gongneung, are facing each other. Queen Gonghye got married to Prince Jasan, the second son of the Crown Prince Uigyeong (King Deokjong) in 1467.
Being very devoted to his parents, King Yejong lost his health while holding a funeral for King Sejo and finally died after just 14 months of his reign. At that time, Prince Jean, the son of King Yejong, was only three years old, and Prince Weolsan who was 15, was in poor health. Therefore, Prince Jasan (King Seongjong) ascended the throne and Queen Gonghye was installed as Queen.
Even though she entered the palace at such a young age, Queen Gonghye was courteous and very devoted to her parents, thereby being loved by three queens (Queen Jeonghui, the lawful wife of King Sejo, Queen Sohye, the lawful wife of King Deokjong and Queen Ansun, the second lawful wife of King Yejong). Five years after becoming queen, Queen Gonghye died without an heir. As she was a queen, her tomb has more figures than the Gongneung, the tomb of her elder sister, Queen Jangsun, who was the Crown Princess when she died.
