This is the royal tomb where Queen Seondeok, the first queen and 27th monarch of the Silla is buried. As the daughter of King Jinpyeong(579- 632), she acceded to the throne. She contributed to the construction of famous building such as Cheomseongdae, one of world's earliest observatories existing, and Bunwhangsa Temple and unification of the three kingdoms with Kim Yusin and Kim Chunchu. This is the grave mound of the height of 6.8m and the width of 23.6m. There is stone circle of a few layers around the mound. The history book named Samguksagi, or History of the Three Kingdoms, says that before she died, she asked the lieges to bury herself in the Buddhist country named 'Dorichoen.' However, they didn't know where it was until she told them it was the peak of Mt. Nangsan. Since King Munmu performed the rite for the Four Divas at the peak of Mt. Nangsan after he accomplished the unification of Three Kingdoms, people had known the intention why the queen named the place Buddhist country.
