382 sayılı kültürel miras olarak tescil edilen Denny Taegeukgi, Daehan İmparatorluğu'nda Gojong (고종, 高宗) (1852-1919) tarafından ABD diplomatik danışmanı O.N. Denny'e (1838-1900) verildiğine inanılan ulusal bayraktır. Kore Ulusal Müzesi tarafından düzenlenen Kore Bağımsızlık Gününün 73. yıldönümünü kutlamak için özel bir sergide sergilenen öğelerden biri de bu bayraktır.
Bu yıl Kore, bağımsızlık hareketinin resmi olarak başlamasının 73. yıldönümünü ve Kore hükümetinin kurulmasının 70. yıldönümünü kutlarken, Kore'nin bağımsızlığını kutlamak ve anmak için ülke çapında birçok kültürel etkinliğe ev sahipliği yapıyor.
13-19 Ağustos tarihleri arasında Kore Ulusal Müzesi'nde bulunan Kore İmparatorluğu Galerisi, Kore'nin en eski ulusal bayrağı olan, 382. Kültürel miras öğesi olarak kaydedilen O.N. Denny Taegeukgi'yi sergiliyor. 263 cm uzunluğunda ve 180 cm yüksekliğindeki bayrak, Daehan İmparatorluğu'nda Gojong (고종, 高宗) (1852-1919) tarafından ABD diplomatik danışmanı O.N. Denny'e (1838-1900) 1890'da Denny'nin görevinden alınması ve ABD’ye dönmek zorunda bırakılması üzerine verildi.
Özel sergide, ABD'li misyoner William Arthur Noble'ın (1866-1945) sahip olduğu ulusal bayrağın son versiyonları ve 1900 yılında yayınlanan Exposition Universelle'de Kore Köşkü'nü tanıtan bir günlük olan Fransız Le Petit Journal'dan bir sayıda yer alıyor.

O.N. Denny Taegeukgi, 13 Ağustos'ta Kore Ulusal Müzesi'ndeki Kore İmparatorluğu Galerisi'nde sergilenen Gojong'un portresiyle korunaklı bir camda yansıtıldı.
Vatanseverler ve Gazi İşleri Bakanlığı, denizaşırı ülkelerde yaşamakta olan bağımsızlık yurtseverlerinin çocuklarını 13 Ağustos'tan 18 Ağustos'a kadar Kore'ye gelmeleri için davet etti. ABD ve anakara Çin de dahil olmak üzere altı ülkeden kırk üç torun, Seoul Ulusal Mezarlığı, Seodaemun Cezaevi Tarih Salonu, Kore Bağımsızlık Salonu, Birleşme Çanı ve Demilitarize Bölgesi gibi tarihi yerleri ziyaret edecek.
Kore Çağdaş Tarihi Ulusal Müzesi, 15 Ağustos Bağımsızlık Günü'nde bir “tarih konseri” düzenliyor. Tarihsel Hakikat ve Adalet Merkezi tarafından hapishanenin içinde yapılacak olan festivalde bağımsızlık şarkıları ve söylenecek şarkılar çalınacak.
“Herkesin Hayal Ettiği Ülke” adlı özel sergi, 2 Aralık'a kadar müzede yer alacak. Sergi, 1945'teki kurtuluş ile 1948'de Kore hükümetinin kurulması arasındaki üç yılı gözden geçiriyor.
Hapishanedeki sömürgeci makamlar tarafından işkence gören sayısız bağımsızlık savaşçılarını barındıran Seodaemun Cezaevi Tarih Salonu, 14 ve 15 Ağustos'ta 2018 Seodaemun Bağımsızlık Demokrasi Festivali'ne ev sahipliği yapacak.
Son olarak, Kore Orman Servisi de kutlamalar için ulusal çiçek olan mugunghwa amberçiçeği ile 15 Ağustos'a kadar ülke çapında bir festival düzenleyecek.
The O.N. Denny Taegeukgi, registered as cultural heritage item No. 382, is believed to be the national flag given by Gojong (고종, 高宗) (1852-1919) of the Daehan Empire to U.S. diplomatic advisor O.N. Denny (1838-1900). It is one of the items on display at a special exhibition to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of Korea’s Independence Day, hosted by the National Museum of Korea.
As this year marks the 73rd anniversary of the formal start of Korea’s independence movement and the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Korean government, many cultural events are being hosted across the country to commemorate and to celebrate Korean independence.
From Aug. 13 to 19, the Korean Empire Gallery at the National Museum of Korea will have on display the oldest national flag of Korea, the O.N. Denny Taegeukgi, registered as cultural heritage item No. 382. The flag, 263-cm long and 180-cm high, was presented by Gojong (고종, 高宗) (1852-1919) of the Daehan Empire to his U.S. diplomatic advisor O.N. Denny (1838-1900) when Denny was expelled from his position and had to return to the U.S. in 1890.
In the special exhibition, there are also early versions of the national flag owned by U.S. missionary William Arthur Noble (1866-1945) and an issue of the French daily Le Petit Journal published in 1900 that introduces the Korean Pavilion at the Exposition Universelle.
The O.N. Denny Taegeukgi is reflected in the glass protecting a portrait of Gojong on display in the Korean Empire Gallery at the National Museum of Korea on Aug. 13.
The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs invited the offspring of independence patriots living overseas to come to Korea from Aug. 13 to 18. Forty-three descendants from six countries, including the U.S and mainland China, will visit historical places, such as the Seoul National Cemetery, the Seodaemun Prison History Hall, the Independence Hall of Korea, the Unification Bell and the Demilitarized Zone.
The National Museum of Korean Contemporary History is hosting a “history concert” on Aug. 15, Independence Day. Songs of independence and songs sung inside the jail, discovered by the Center for Historical Truth and Justice, will be played there.
The special exhibition “The Country Of Which They All Dreamed” will be at the museum until Dec. 2. It reviews the three years between liberation in 1945 and the establishment of the Korean government in 1948.
The Seodaemun Prison History Hall, which commemorates the countless independence fighters who were tortured by colonial authorities at the prison, is hosting the 2018 Seodaemun Independence Democracy Festival on Aug. 14 and 15.
Finally, the Korea Forest Service, too, is hosting a nation-wide festival until Aug. 15 to celebrate the national flower, the mugunghwa hibiscus.
