Kore'nin Kırsal Bölgesi Sonbaharda Parıldıyor

Sonuncu prensesin mezarı, 100 ayı, tek bir adam tarafından oluşturulan bir orman ve Nami’nin sisi en iyi sonbaharda görülüyor.

Kore’de sonbahar nispeten kısadır ve güzel sonbahar yapraklarını yaşama fırsatı dahi kısa sürer. Gangwon, Hongcheon-gun’daki Ginkgo ormanı, Gangwon-ri olarak adlandırılan uzaktaki kentin doğu kenarında yer almaktadır. Ziyaretçilerin Seoul-Chuncheon Otoyolu’yla geldikten sonra bir saat boyunca kayalık dağ yolunda yolculuk yapması gerekir. Gwangwon-ri alanı genellikle yıl boyunca tek bir ay için terkedilmiş olmasına rağmen, bu orman Seoul'un merkezindeki Myeongdong sokaklarındaki kadar kalabalık olur.

Bu yolculuğu yapmayı tercih eden ziyaretçiler tek bir adam tarafından bakılan ormana girdiklerinin farkına varmalıdır.

Cheongdo’daki Unmunsa Tapınağı

Unmunsa, Kuzey Gyeongsang, Cheongdo-gun’da 560 yılında Silla Hanedanı dönemindeki Kral Jinheung tarafından Hogeo Dağı'nda kurulmuştur. Tarihi tapınak, Budist keşiş Iryeon tarafından yazılan Samgukyusa’nın (Üç Krallığın Anıları) doğduğu yerdir ve 1945 yılından bu yana kadın rahiplere ev sahipliği yapmıştır.

Tapınak, ünlü "eski çam ağacı" dahil olmak üzere birçok yaşlı ağaçları içermektedir. Bu özel ağaç, Kore Ulusal Anıtı No.180 de belirlenmiştir ve buranın ana cazibesi olmuştur. Ama bu sezon boyunca, 450 yıldır tapınakta duran iki eski ginkgo ağaçları dikkat çekmektedir. 4 metre çevresi ile 30 metrede (98 feet) dimdik ayakta duran onların sonbahar boyunca tapınakta altın yapraklarını dökmelerini izlemek harika bir gösteridir.

Prenses Deokhye’nin Kraliyet Mezarı

Prenses Deokhye Kraliyet Mezarı, ünlü Hongneung ve Yureung Kraliyet Mezarları yakınındaki Gyeonggi, Namyangju’daki Geumgok- dong’da yer almaktadır. Prenses Joseon Hanedanlığı’ndan Kral Gojong'un kızıdır ve kraliyet ailesinin sonuncu üyesidir. Ağabeyi Prens Yi Kang’ın yanına gömülmüştür.

Onun mezarı ciddi bir aura yayar ve tek bir mezar taşı bulunur. Mekana kadar götüren yol güzeldir. Kraliyet mezarı yolu başta ginkgo, akçaağaç ve kiraz ağaçları ile kaplıdır. Bu sonbahar yapraklarının tadını çıkarmak için ideal bir ortam sağlar.

Organizatörler, ilk kez halka mezarı açıklamışlardır. 1989 yılında prensesin defnedilmesinden bu yana, Kültürel Miras Yönetimi mekanı kilitli tuttu. Yaz boyunca yayımlanan dönem filmi "Prenses Deokhye" ile elde edilen tanıtımla yönetim, 30 Kasım’a kadar halka mezarı açmaya karar verdi. Chuncheon’daki Nami Adası

Nami Adası’na her ay ortalama 30.000 ziyaretçi gelmektedir. Ekim ve Kasım aylarında bu sayı sonbahar yaprakları nedeniyle 100.000’e çıkmaktadır. Adadaki bol akça ağaç, ginkgo ağaçları ve Metasequoia yılın bu zamanında en seçkin renklerle olgunlaşır.

Adaya feribot vesileyle programlama yapılır. Bugünden itibaren 6 Kasım’a kadar 30 dakikalık ilk tekne her zamankinden daha erken hareket edecektir. Birçok ziyaretçi sonbaharda adayı ziyaret ederek sabah sisinin tadını çıkarır. Ağaçların parlak renkleri ve pusluluğunun çatıştığı zaman ortaya çıkan pastel gibi tonları seyretmek için bir manzara vardır.

A last princess’ tomb, 100 bears, a forest created by a single man and the mist off Nami are all best viewed in the fall.

Autumn in Korea is relatively short, and opportunities to experience beautiful fall foliage are even shorter. The period between this week and early November marks the best time to see the seasonal changes in the environment. The Korea JoongAng Daily’s affiliate, the JoongAng Ilbo, chose five locations across the country that best deliver the Korean fall foliage experience. From a walk through the national park to a visit to a forest, these destinations will surely provide breathtaking scenery and a perfect break for city-dwellers.

Ginkgo Forest in Hongcheon

The Ginkgo Forest in Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon, is located at the eastern edge of a remote town called Gwangwon-ri. Visitors must journey through a rocky mountain for an hour after coming off the Seoul-Chuncheon Expressway. Although the Gwangwon-ri area is generally deserted, for a single month during the year, this forest becomes as crowded as the streets of Myeongdong in central Seoul.

Visitors who choose to make this journey should realize that they are entering a forest that is cared for by a single man.

The forest is not a traditional tourist attraction. Nor is it a particularly well decorated arboretum. The entire area has only about 2,000 trees spread across the entire area. But the quaint atmosphere of the forest still manages to draw people from all over.

The forest does not have an admission fee. Nor does it have a time limit for its visitors.

Until recently, the forest didn’t even have proper rest areas for visitors. Caretaker Yu Ki-chun, 73, started placing wooden chairs and swings all over the forest. Although Yu had previously built a treehouse for his grandchild, he said he plans on building another for the new stream of visitors his forest attracts.

Visitors often enjoy a picnic and stay for an hour. The local government recently created a parking lot with 100 spots and a bathroom, which is a definite improvement from the primitive conditions of the past. For more information, call the local government offices at 033-430-4501.

Beartree Park in Sejong

The Beartree Park in Sejong City is an arboretum. It was watched over by the head of the park, Lee Jae-yeon, 85, for nearly 30 years. The park is filled with a variety of trees including junipers, cherry blossoms and Japanese maples. The park is a home to animals as well. There are thousands of carp swimming in its ponds, as well as over 100 Asiatic black bears walking about. This is how the park got its name.

The arboretum contains a secret walkway hidden away. It is referred to as the “Maple Tree Trail.” It can be found on the right side of the path that goes towards the observatory. Ordinarily, it is only accessible to staff members. However, during the fall foliage season, the trail is open to all visitors. This year, the path will be open from today through Nov. 4th.

There are two entrances into the path which covers 2 kilometers (1.2 miles). The left entrance contains a path covered by over 100 gingko trees. The right entrance is dominated by Zelkova trees. The paths eventually meet and form an oval shape, so it is hard to get lost.

The Beartree Park draws visitors with its alluring transformation during the fall. Another reason for visitors to visit the maple trail is that it offers an environment untouched by man. Sightseers can truly experience what nature has to offer. Unlike a planned park, the trees on the path were not planted by people, and were preserved from before the construction of the park. Unmunsa Temple in Cheongdo

The Unmunsa was founded by King Jinheung during the Silla Dynasty in 560 on Hogeo Mountain in Cheongdo-gun of North Gyeongsang. This historic temple is the birthplace of the Samgukyusa (Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms) written by Buddhist monk Iryeon, and has been home to female monks since 1945.

The temple contains many old trees including the famed “old pine tree.” This particular tree was designated Korean National Monument No. 180, and is a main attraction. But during this season, attention is drawn to two old ginkgo trees that have stood at the temple for 450 years. Standing 30 meters (98 feet) tall with a circumference of 4 meters, their golden leaves shower the temple during the fall, a wondrous spectacle to behold.

The two ginkgo’s at the temple are of the female variant, so they produce many fruits as well. Ordinarily, the monks enjoy leisure time under the tree. However, even the monks look forward to the beauty of the trees during this time of the year.

Visitors are forbidden from entering the area of the ginkgo trees for most of the year. But on one day of the year when the fall foliage is at its peak, monks provide access to visitors. Royal Tomb of Princess Deokhye

The Royal Tomb of Princess Deokhye is located in Geumgok-dong at Namyangju, Gyeonggi near the famous Hongneung and Yureung Royal Tombs. The princess was the daughter of King Gojong of the Joseon Dynasty and is the last of the royal family. She is buried next to her brother Prince Yi Kang.

Her tomb contains a single headstone that radiates a solemn aura. The road that leads up to the site is beautiful. The path that leads to the royal tomb is lined by ginkgo, maple and cherry trees. It provides an ideal environment to enjoy the fall foliage.

It is the first time that the organizers are unveiling the tomb to the public. Since the princess’ burial in 1989, the Cultural Heritage Administration kept the site locked up. Thanks to publicity gained from the period film “Princess Deokhye” released over the summer, the administration decided to open the tomb to the public until Nov. 30. Prince Yi Kang’s tomb will also be available for viewing during the same period. Admission to the tomb is 1,000 won for adults, and free for children. Nami Island in Chuncheon

Nami Island draws an average of 30,000 visitors each month. During October and November, that number rises to 100,000 due to the fall foliage. The island’s abundant maple trees, ginkgos trees and Metasequoias mature into their most exquisite colors at this time of year.

The ferry to the island adjusts its schedule for the occasion. From today until Nov. 6, the first boat will depart 30 minutes earlier than usual. Many visitors enjoy the morning fog that visits the island during autumn. When the bright colors of the trees clash with the haze, the pastel-like hues that are produced are a sight to behold.
