Gayoon İle Dazed&Confused Röportajı

Bugün, öncelikle bir yılan ile çekim yapma fikrini ortaya attınız. Yılan konsepti ile daha havalı görüneceğini düşündünüz mü?

Konsept için olmasa bile, yılan sevdiğimden dolayı ilk olarak “Volume Up” için yılan konseptli bir video kaydetmek istediğimi söyledim. Today, you firstly suggested doing the shooting with a snake. Did you think the snake would look cool for the concept?

Even if it wasn’t for the concept, since I’ve always liked snakes, I firstly said that I wanted to record the ‘Volume Up’ music video with a snake. The truth is that I wanted to raise one in the dorms but the members said I couldn’t so I didn’t. They also said that I’d have to feed it mice I’d kept in the freezer. Or take care of hamsters and throw them in each time.

Whether it’s the snake or the clothes, it surprised us to see you actively suggest them.

I’m really into clothes since I read a lot of magazines. Furthermore, <Dazed> can somehow do something different compared to other magazines and it is special. Even my acquaintances said that, because it is <Dazed> you can do the photo shoot with a snake (laughter). In the end, today, I expressed my love for snakes to my heart’s content!

Do you like magazines?

The editorials are cool because I get to know which clothes get to be featured. Because I’m not good at using the computer, I’d read magazines rather than use the Internet. When we go abroad for a performance, I buy a lot of foreign magazines; I also take the stylists’ and read them. In particular, the foreign magazines look kind of racy but I think that the fact it is shot in an artistic way is cool.

When you decide the concept for the song, do you give your opinions on the styling, the hair or the make-up?

I suggested the clothes we wore during our ‘Volume Up’ promotion activities. There are these long-sleeved saggy clothes at Balmain, we modified them a little bit and manufactured them. What I suggested became our stage outfits and because the response was good, it was amazing. At the office, they asked me first about how BEAST’s outfits should look.

Have you dreamt of becoming a singer since you were a child?

Yes! And I haven’t changed my dream even once. I became a trainee when I was 14. Even though I have no special talent since there are many people who’ve been preparing for a long time lately, I could withstand because I was sure about my dream.

What is the song that you’ve originally often listened to?

It changes from time to time. Before my debut, I didn’t even listen to pop music. It is because I didn’t watch TV that much. So I didn’t know. Lately, because I watch a lot of what other singers do, I know. Recently, the songs I listen to the most are Cheryl Cole’s ‘Parachute’ and Jazmine Sullivan’s ‘Bust Your Window’. I really like the feeling that’s similar to tango that comes out of it.

You’ve become an issue with your airport fashion and you’ve been called the ‘Gangnam Woman’. Do you like to hear such things?

I do. It became a burden since I had to know how to wear clothes well so I got more into it. The truth is that my older brother is a fashion designer. Even though it’s a close industry, people don’t know that we are siblings. Thanks to my older brother, I got even more interested in fashion. Though we didn’t want to lose, and dress fashionably since young, whenever my brother said he bought an item from a certain brand I would say that I bought an item from a better brand. (Laughter)

You’re the youngest so how come you don’t have aegyo?

I wasn’t close with my brother so it may be because of that (laughter). The people I meet for work say its okay but I’m really shy when it comes to strangers.

When you filmed variety programs, you spoke and giggled very well.
The truth is that I hate going on variety programs. When we have to dance all of a sudden. (sigh) I hate the “who do you like, who likes me” thingy (laughter).

Of all the programs, you appeared mainly on new programs such as <Weekly Idol> and <Yoo Seyoon’s Art Video>?

Even if you don’t do what you’re told to, it’s all right. Even if I just say what I want to say, it’s all right (laughter).

If you were given the chance to do something, what do you want to do?

I want to do everything! I want to go solo, I want to do more acting, I
want to study in a foreign fashion institute, I talked about it with my brother. He said that what you make yourself and what you see in magazines are different. “You don’t know anything, isn’t that jargon?” And he disregarded it. I think of a lot of things.

When you get holidays, what do you mainly do?

I go shopping a lot. I don’t necessarily buy things. I often go with the stylists but when I want to buy pretty expensive clothes, I think I’d get scolded if I take my card so I go with my mom. Without gossiping. We agreed on this (laughter).

When you go shopping and that people recognize you.

I don’t go to Cheongdam-dong where there are many people. I often enter a big brand store located in the Apgujeong neighborhood and I get recognized in this district, I just pretend I don’t know. There are some advantages such as being able to pick up a few more socks?

Do people talk a lot about your legs?

Because I do hear a lot about my legs, I am reluctant to wear skirts. When they actually see them, they say that they’re so skinny it looks gross, that I’m walking with arms…

Don’t you want to look sexy?

No, I don’t! Because I like fashion, I like the models’ skinniness in magazines. My chest doesn’t fit the model body as well.

After debuting in mid-2009, you carried on promotion activities without almost no rest. Isn’t it difficult or wearisome?

From our debut date until last year, we dedicated ourselves to performing; we couldn’t do something else like doing a photoshoot like today. Since I’ve been doing what I want to starting from this year, I shall say that feel like working (laughter)?

You feel like working… It’s not something you get to hear from a 23 year old idol’s mouth.

The truth is for 2 years we had the same daily routine. We practiced, went on stage, attended events, and went abroad so we practiced again, like this. Now, my color gets a little more exposed and I get to wear a lot of new clothes, it feels much better (laughter).

Kara ile Röportaj

Soompi, Malezya'da düzenlenen MTV Dünya Sahnesi'nde performans sergilemelerinden önce Kara ile oturup harika bir röportaj yapma fırsatı yakaladı! Kara'nın, ülkeye ilk gelişinde bile bu kadar popüler olduğunu tahmin etmemiştik.

Uzun bir süre beklememizin ardından kızlar içeri girdi. Singapur'da düzenlenen K5J parfümünün gösterisinden önce hastalanan ve iyileşip tekrar Gyuri, Nicole, Hara ve Jiyoung ile beraber olarak iyi görünen Seungyeon ile görüşmek harikaydı. Röportaj için giydikleri turkuaz ve beyaz karışımı kıyafetleri çok sevdik! Lider Gyuri beyaz kısa pantolon ile turkuaz renkli şifon bluz içindeydi. Nicole, kısa kollu beyaz ceketin altında kısa gömlek elbise giymişti. Hara ise desenli yaz elbisesi ve kafasındaki fiyonk ile sevimli görünüyordu. Seungyeon, beyaz pantolon ile turkuaz bir kıyafet giymişti. Son olarak Jiyoung ise dantelli kısa oyuncak bebek elbisesi ile uzun bacaklarını sergiledi. Kızlar selam verdiler ve yeni parfümleri, Malezya hakkındaki düşünceleri, boş zamanlarında dinledikleri müzik türleri, sevdikleri fiziksel özellikleri hakkında keyifli bir röportaj gerçekleştirdi.

Kara'yı çekici kılan şey nedir?

Gyuri: Sahnedeyken çok profesyonel oluyoruz. Fakat çeşitli programlarda çok sevimli olan "kapının yanındaki kız" imajını sergiliyoruz. Farklı kişiliklerimizin sahip olduğumuz en iyi güç olduğunu düşünüyoruz.

Kore'de ve diğer ülkelerdeki popülerliğinizi nasıl sürdürüyorsunuz?

Seungyeon: Sürekli pratik yaptığımızdan ve kendimize dikkat ettiğimizden dolayı popülerliğimizin sürdüğüne inanıyoruz. Bir çok kişi, samimi kişiliklerimizden dolayı bizi seviyor ve bu yüzden onların beklentilerini karşılamak için her zaman sıkı çalışacağız!

Hara: Hepimizin ayrı SNS hesabı var. Hayranlarımızla iletişim kurduğumuz bir kanal olarak kullanıyoruz; hayranlarımızın tepkilerini ve ne düşündüklerini öğrenmek için giriyoruz.

Malezyalı hayranlarınıza söylemek istediğiniz bir şey var mı?

Jiyoung: Malezya'ya ilk gelişimiz! Güzel manzaralara sahip olduğundan dolayı harika bir yer olduğunu düşünüyoruz. Umarım ileride Malezya'da sahne alacağımız fırsat olur.

Akılda kalan pop melodileri ile biliniyorsunuz fakat hayranlarınızı şaşırtacak dinlediğiniz bir müzik türü veya herhangi bir sanatçı var mı?

Nicole: Her tür müziği dinlemeye çalışıyoruz, bunun müzik sektöründe gelişmemize yardımcı olduğunu düşünüyorum. Rap ve hip-hop, rock, punk rock, ve çağdaş müzik dinliyoruz.

Sahneye çıkmadan önce yaptığınız bir şey var mı?

Jiyoung: Ellerimizi üst üste koyarak "Hwaiting!" şeklinde bağırıyoruz.

İçinizde en çok kimin oyunculuğu iyi?

Nicole: Japonya'da "We are Kara" adlı bir dramada yer almıştık, Gyuri şimdi "Reckless Family"'de oynuyor. Hara ise SBS'den "City Hunter" dizisinde rol almıştı. Jiyoung da Japonya'da “Rainbow Rose” adlı dramada oynadı.

K5J adlı parfüm ile geldiniz; nasıl olduğunu anlatır mısın?

Seungyeon: Fransa'dayken profesyonel bir parfüm üreticisiyle görüştük ve imajımıza en uygun parfüm hakkında konuştuk. Parfüm üreticisi, parlak ve canlı bir parfümle çıkmamız gerektiğini söyledi. Parfüm ile işte böyle yola çıktık.

Parfümle ilgili güzellik salonu gibi bir şey düşünüyor musunuz? Dikkatle incelendiğinde gerçekten kusursuz bir cilde sahipsiniz, makyaj salonu ile gelme ihtimaliniz var mı?

Nicole: Şuanda bir şey yok fakat bu alanda ilerlemek için iyi bir fırsat olabilir.

Yarın MTV Dünya Sahnesi'nde sahne alacaksınız, bu performansta bizi ne bekliyor?

Nicole: “Step,” “Mister,” gibi hit şarkılarımızdan karışım hazırladık, ayrıca "Wanna" albümünden "Let It Go" adlı parçayı seslendireceğiz. Henüz TV'de sahne almadık; bu ilk olacak ve gerçekten heyecanlıyız.

Soompi was recently given the awesome opportunity to attend a roundtable interview withKara before their performance at the MTV World Stage in Malaysia! We didn’t anticipate how popular Kara would be during their first visit to the country.

After what seemed like a long wait, the five girls filed in. It was great to see Seungyeon, who had fallen ill just before the K5J perfume showcase in Singapore, recovered and in good enough shape to join Gyuri, Nicole, Hara, and Jiyoung. We loved the coordinated turquoise and white outfits they wore for the interview! Leader Gyuri was dressed in a turquoise chiffon blouse with white short pants. Nicole was in a high-low hem shirtdress underneath a white short-sleeved jacket. Hara looked cute in a printed sundress and bow hairband. Seungyeon wore a turquoise sheath top with skinny white pants. Finally, Jiyoung showed off her long legs in a short baby doll dress in lace fabric. The girls greeted themselves and conducted the interview gamely, answering questions about their new perfume, their thoughts about Malaysia, what type of music they listen to in their spare time, and their favorite physical feature (Soompi question)!

Q: What is Kara’s appeal?

Gyuri: Onstage, we are very professional. While on various variety shows, we display a very cute “girl next door” image. We believe these various personalities are our biggest strength.

Q: How do you maintain your popularity in Korea and overseas?

Seungyeon: We believe that we are able to maintain our popularity because we’re constantly practicing and taking care of ourselves. Many people like us for our candid personalities, and we’re always practicing hard to meet their expectations!

Q: You are the first girl group after BoA and DBSK to sell a million singles. Where were you girls when you heard the news and what was your reaction?

Gyuri: We first read the news when we were in Korea. We were thrilled and honored to see that all of our hard work had paid off.


Q: My question is about your SNS/Twitter activities. Do you read your fans’ replies, and how do you feel about it being a platform to communicate with your fans?

Hara: All five of us have our own SNS accounts. We use them as a channel to communicate with our fans; we personally check up on the responses and learn what our fans are thinking.

Q: Do you have a message for your Malaysian fans?

Jiyoung: This is our first time in Malaysia! We think it’s a great place because of its beautiful scenery. I hope we have more opportunities to perform here in Malaysia.

Q: You are well known for your catchy pop tunes, but what artist or type of music do you listen to that would surprise your fans?

Nicole: We are to try keep an open ear to all genres of music, so I think that it helps us to widen our expanse in music industry.

Personally, a few of us like to listen to rap and hip-hop, rock, punk rock, and contemporary music.

Q: Do you observe any rituals before you perform?

Jiyoung: The five of us cross our hands and shout “Hwaiting!”

Q: Among yourselves, who has a lot of acting experience?

Nicole: All of us were in a drama call “We are Kara” in Japan, but in the past, and presently Gyuri has been in a drama called “Reckless Family.” And Hara was in a SBS drama called “City Hunter,” and Jiyoung also came out in a drama called “Rainbow Rose” in Japan.

Q: You came out with a fragrance called K5J; tell us what is it like.

Seungyeon: When we were in France, we met with a professional perfumer and discussed what fragrance best suited our image. The perfumer believed that we should come out with a fragrance that is bright and fresh. That’s how we came out with our fragrance.

Q: Continuing on with the fragrance, can we look forward to a beauty line? Considering you girls have really flawless skin, can we expect that you girls come up with a makeup line?

Nicole: We don’t have anything in particular but it would be a great opportunity for us to expand into that area.

Q: You will be performing at the MTV World Stage tomorrow, so what can we expect from the performance?

Nicole: We are preparing a hit medley of our songs, for example like “Step,” “Mister,” and we are also performing a song that was in our “Wanna” album called “Let It Go.” We haven’t actually performed that on TV yet; it’s our first time and we are very excited about it.

Q: Your fans often hear about your least favorite physical aspects, but since you are such beautiful ladies, there must be something that you like about yourself. What is your favorite physical feature?

Jiyoung: Height, slender figure, and legs.
Nicole: Eyes.
Gyuri: Eyes.
Seungyeon: My small face.
Hara: Never put on weight!

TEEN TOP recently sat down for an interview with Newsen where they discussed their maturing style, future goals, impeccable teamwork, and their increasing involvement with their music.

Having made their comeback with ‘Be Ma Girl‘, the group has been getting bolder with each new release.

Chunji began, “‘Be Ma Girl’ is a shy song about a boy confessing his feelings to his crush. I hope that this summer, everyone will get a boyfriend or girlfriend.”

On the topic of cell phone usage, TEEN TOP explained that they leave their cell phones with the company every morning and get them back once their schedules for the day have been completed. Although they were promised cell phones with their “Going Crazy” win, they weren’t given the full end of the deal.

“This time, we asked to get our dorms changed if we succeed in the missions on ‘TEEN TOP’s Rising 100%‘. Although we weren’t able to get our cell phones back, they promised that we’d get a new dorm so we’re looking for new places to move to.”

Since their debut two years ago, the boys have been maturing right before the eyes of their fans, particularly Changjo. When asked how he had gootten so handsome, he replied, “I think it’s because I lost weight. I actually want to forget how I used to look like before.”

Jokingly, reporters asked, “You didn’t get any work done, did you?” to which he replied, “We promised one another that if any of us got plastic surgery, we’d leave the group. Getting teeth fixed is okay, but anything like fillers and shots is not permissable. We’re not against plastic surgery, but it’s just a promise we made to one another.”

It’s not only their looks that’ve changed, but also their stage manner and skilled level of choreography. Chunji expressed, “I think now, we can’t achieve the same level of synchronization that we showed during ‘Clap‘. We actually surprise ourselves when we watch ‘Clap’. We were probably able to achieve that level because we were so young back then.”

Recently, the boys also had a solo concert in Japan ahead of having one in Korea. Thus, when asked what their goals for the year were, Niel replied, “We want to hold a concert in Korea. We’re going to work to gain more fans and hopefully make that come true.”

Considering some recent controversies, the topic of teamwork also rose as an important point of discussion. When asked if they all had good relationships, they said, “Actually, we probably should try to spend more time apart from one another. The reason that our teamwork is so great is because we’re stuck together all day long. We need to spend some time away from one another. We’ve probably seen the members more than we’ve seen our parents? Since we’ve been together 24 hours for the past three years, from the moment we open our eyes to the moment we fall asleep, we’d like for us to get a little more excited when we see each other [by spending some time apart].”

For fans looking forward to their upcoming full length studio album, L. Joe also hinted that he had composed three songs so far, some of which will be included in the album!

Kara ile Röportaj

Soompi, Malezya'da düzenlenen MTV Dünya Sahnesi'nde performans sergilemelerinden önce Kara ile oturup harika bir röportaj yapma fırsatı yakaladı! Kara'nın, ülkeye ilk gelişinde bile bu kadar popüler olduğunu tahmin etmemiştik.

Soompi was recently given the awesome opportunity to attend a roundtable interview withKara before their performance at the MTV World Stage in Malaysia! We didn’t anticipate how popular Kara would be during their first visit to the country.

After what seemed like a long wait, the five girls filed in. It was great to see Seungyeon, who had fallen ill just before the K5J perfume showcase in Singapore, recovered and in good enough shape to join Gyuri, Nicole, Hara, and Jiyoung. We loved the coordinated turquoise and white outfits they wore for the interview! Leader Gyuri was dressed in a turquoise chiffon blouse with white short pants. Nicole was in a high-low hem shirtdress underneath a white short-sleeved jacket. Hara looked cute in a printed sundress and bow hairband. Seungyeon wore a turquoise sheath top with skinny white pants. Finally, Jiyoung showed off her long legs in a short baby doll dress in lace fabric. The girls greeted themselves and conducted the interview gamely, answering questions about their new perfume, their thoughts about Malaysia, what type of music they listen to in their spare time, and their favorite physical feature (Soompi question)!

Q: What is Kara’s appeal?

Gyuri: Onstage, we are very professional. While on various variety shows, we display a very cute “girl next door” image. We believe these various personalities are our biggest strength.

Q: How do you maintain your popularity in Korea and overseas?

Seungyeon: We believe that we are able to maintain our popularity because we’re constantly practicing and taking care of ourselves. Many people like us for our candid personalities, and we’re always practicing hard to meet their expectations!

Q: You are the first girl group after BoA and DBSK to sell a million singles. Where were you girls when you heard the news and what was your reaction?

Gyuri: We first read the news when we were in Korea. We were thrilled and honored to see that all of our hard work had paid off.


Q: My question is about your SNS/Twitter activities. Do you read your fans’ replies, and how do you feel about it being a platform to communicate with your fans?

Hara: All five of us have our own SNS accounts. We use them as a channel to communicate with our fans; we personally check up on the responses and learn what our fans are thinking.

Q: Do you have a message for your Malaysian fans?

Jiyoung: This is our first time in Malaysia! We think it’s a great place because of its beautiful scenery. I hope we have more opportunities to perform here in Malaysia.

Q: You are well known for your catchy pop tunes, but what artist or type of music do you listen to that would surprise your fans?

Nicole: We are to try keep an open ear to all genres of music, so I think that it helps us to widen our expanse in music industry.

Personally, a few of us like to listen to rap and hip-hop, rock, punk rock, and contemporary music.

Q: Do you observe any rituals before you perform?

Jiyoung: The five of us cross our hands and shout “Hwaiting!”

Q: Among yourselves, who has a lot of acting experience?

Nicole: All of us were in a drama call “We are Kara” in Japan, but in the past, and presently Gyuri has been in a drama called “Reckless Family.” And Hara was in a SBS drama called “City Hunter,” and Jiyoung also came out in a drama called “Rainbow Rose” in Japan.

Q: You came out with a fragrance called K5J; tell us what is it like.

Seungyeon: When we were in France, we met with a professional perfumer and discussed what fragrance best suited our image. The perfumer believed that we should come out with a fragrance that is bright and fresh. That’s how we came out with our fragrance.

Q: Continuing on with the fragrance, can we look forward to a beauty line? Considering you girls have really flawless skin, can we expect that you girls come up with a makeup line?

Nicole: We don’t have anything in particular but it would be a great opportunity for us to expand into that area.

Q: You will be performing at the MTV World Stage tomorrow, so what can we expect from the performance?

Nicole: We are preparing a hit medley of our songs, for example like “Step,” “Mister,” and we are also performing a song that was in our “Wanna” album called “Let It Go.” We haven’t actually performed that on TV yet; it’s our first time and we are very excited about it.

Q: Your fans often hear about your least favorite physical aspects, but since you are such beautiful ladies, there must be something that you like about yourself. What is your favorite physical feature?

Jiyoung: Height, slender figure, and legs.
Nicole: Eyes.
Gyuri: Eyes.
Seungyeon: My small face.
Hara: Never put on weight!

Kwon Yuri talks acting, future goals, and Girls’ Generation with ‘CéCi’ magazine

Kwon Yuri, ‘CéCi’ Magazin Dergisi ile Oyunculuğu, Gelecekteki Hedefleri ve Girls’ Generation Hakkında Konuştu

Girls’ Generation üyesi Yuri, artist ünvanı ile artık kendi başına kazanıyor. Yuri göz açıp kapanıncaya kadar 24 yaşında olan olgun bir kadın haline geldi. Girls’ Generation member Yuri has earned herself another title- Actress. Yuri has in the blink of an eye become a mature 24 year old woman, and it was extremely apparent in her interview with ‘CéCi‘ magazine. She sounded much more adult in conversation, and she could not seem to hide the many concerns that were swimming in her mind.

CeCi: You recently completed your drama ‘Fashion King‘ this past May. It was your first attempt at acting, so the project probably felt somewhat similar to a first love.

Yuri: I actually really like that expression. It really was like my first love, I was nervous and there was a lot I was looking forward to. It also hurt as I was a bit awkward. I felt a mix of emotions, but I don’t know if there are any words that could accurately describe the way I felt. I don’t know if it was because I was so into my character ‘Anna’, but I started to question what kind of person I really was. It was a time where I felt a lot of pain, but also learned a lot. It’s only been two, three months since the drama has come to an end, but it’s extremely embarrassing to watch. I saw ‘Fashion King’ come on television when I was overseas, and I turned the channel without even realizing it (laughs). I got myself together and saw it later, and it was actually really nice.

CeCi: You keep saying that there was a lot of pain involved. Was it the pain that your character Anna had, or was it the result of your acting or the project?

Yuri: I have no regrets, not even 1% when it comes to the end result. It was more related to my acting and the character. The more the series went on with each episode, my concerns and pain only grew. When I first saw the script for ‘Fashion King’, I wanted to do it so bad that I just agreed without even thinking it over, but I had to enunciate English perfectly from the first scene. At that time I thought ‘okay, maybe I made a mistake’, and began to regret my decision. The more I got to know the character, the more I began to worry and the more difficult it became. But maybe that’s why I wanted to finish this project that much more. If ‘Anna’ was meant to be for me, I thought finishing this project would perhaps resolve a lot of the questions and doubts I had about myself. The time I spent being concerned while acting, was the process of resolving doubts I had about myself.

CeCi: The role was extremely complicated and difficult. Did Anna’s depression ever get to you?

Yuri: I want to very nonchalantly tell you that no it didn’t, but to be honest, I was very depressed. Maybe that was just my way of trying to better connect with my character, but, to hide that, I purposely tried to be brighter and happier on set. The staff members probably have no idea, but the people close to me asked me about my long face.

CeCi: Having tried acting for the first time, did you develop your own personal way of surviving on set?

Yuri: My personal method of getting along with everyone is to ask a lot of questions. Not being afraid of things you don’t know, and until I found confidence in myself, I strove to communicate with everyone as much as I could.

CeCi: That takes a lot of courage, did things pan out the way you thought they would?

Yuri: To be honest, I’m actually not an extremely outgoing person so I don’t normally do that, but because I am the youngest on set and the most inexperienced, I felt that in order to avoid inconveniencing my seniors, the only thing to do was to ask questions and learn quickly.

CeCi: Different from promoting with Girls’ Generation, you worked alone. Were you ever lonely?

Yuri: I had a lot of thoughts that ran through my mind. First I thought, ‘there sure were a lot of things I enjoyed despite my very few and shallow talents,’ while I also learned to appreciate my members that much more. While we were filming the drama, TaeTiSeo was promoting as a unit, and I watched the music programs and followed along with the song and dance. My staff members who saw this told me that I am a born singer, and I definitely agree. I realized that being able to sing within Girls’ Generation is a huge joy.

CeCi: Hearing such a powerful expression such as ’Few and shallow talents’ from Girls’ Generation’s Yuri is a bit surprising. Is that true?

Yuri: It just means that I’m receiving such an abundant amount of love and understanding, compared to the few talents I have now. The love I have is infinitely small compared to the love I am receiving, and I think a lot about how I will ever be able to repay this.

CeCi: Your first step as an actress was quite a big one. What would you like your next step to be like?

Yuri: I don’t necessarily want to try anything that’s lighthearted or easy. As long as it’s not a consuming role that’s going to overtake my image, I would like to try a variety of different things.

CeCi: In the drama credits, your full name Kwon Yuri was used instead of just ‘Yuri’.

Yuri: Looking at it from a larger perspective, it kind of feels like ‘the second act’ of Yuri. I just very simply used my real name, that’s all. I always dreamed of seeing my name on the small-screen, and actually seeing the three characters was really strange and different.

CeCi: ‘Fashion King’ was a drama that paired well with the word, ‘Youth’.

Yuri: I think you’re right… it was ‘Youth’. It made your heart want to explode, and it also looked so pitiful at times. There were a lot of people who were frustrated and were uncomfortable watching it, and there were others who said they were in a bad mood after watching it. Rather an an exciting fantasy, it was a drama that continued to show you the inner truth, and therefore there is bound to be a variety of reactions.

CeCi: When it comes to your 20′s, how would you like your youthful days to unfold?

Yuri: I hope to have a lot of struggles in life. I hope to very naturally accept the challenges that come my way, and overcome them wisely. I will grow that much more during that time, and learn twice as much. I am the type who worries and becomes concerned easily and so this could wear me out, but I just hope it becomes that way.

CeCi: What kind of image and what kind of role, if any, do you hope to take on within Girls’ Generation?

Yuri: I had that in the beginning when we first debuted, but the more I build experience, I realize that I don’t want to ever get stuck fitting in a mold created by an image, a phrase, or a role. I want to try a lot of different things, and I want to become someone who is always challenging herself. I guess if I had to select something, I would like to have a more energetic image. Someone who is lifelike and animated. I guess that’s the same thing as being charismatic. I think charisma is displayed when you believe in yourself.

CeCi: Do you have a lot of confidence and reassurance when it comes to yourself?

Yuri: Not usually. Its to the point where our fans make fun of me for being sort of silly, but I don’t want to become perfect when it comes to my everyday life. The more I try to change myself, the more worn out I will become. But, I do have confidence when I stand on stage. When it comes to professional Kwon Yuri, I do have confidence.

CeCi: Girls’ Generation fits that new slang term ‘Perfect Genius’ extremely well. Are you girls drawing our your next image?

Yuri: I think about that a lot. I hope that Girls’ Generation becomes a group that overcomes the challenges they need to overcome, so that we can meet the expectations set for us, and to be satisfied with our own efforts. Even when it comes to records that Girls’ Generation has set, I hope that we will be the ones to break those records. I want to continue to challenge myself. Until where or when, I’m not sure yet.

CeCi: Do you talk about this a lot with the other members?

Yuri: Pretty often. We talk about how long we will be able to promote as Girls’ Generation, which direction we need to take from here on out, what we need to eat right this minute, our ideal types, who we think is hot, our next concept, what kinds of dances we should create, etc.

CeCi: What is one thing the members and the 24-year-old Kwon Yuri want more than anything?

Yuri: We want to mingle amongst average people. I am taking yoga these days, and I really like that I can be with my sister, my mom, and others. Spending a regular day with my school friends gives me an extreme boost of energy. I don’t want to lose this valuable time. I’m afraid that I’ll get lost in the idea that I’m special and superior. I’m afraid that I will become accustomed to the special treatment, and won’t know what to do once the spotlight isn’t on me anymore.

CeCi: It sounds like there was already a time when you got used to the attention.

Yuri: Yes, there was. I even got mad. It was a wall that I myself had built. I get scared, thinking of the lonely time I spent within that wall. I thought about how I could stop building that wall, and I realized the answer was quite simple. To get along with average people and go through the same things and challenges that they go through. That’s was it.
