Irworobongdo

Irworobongdo, Joseon Hanedanlığı döneminde daima kraliyet tahtı Eojwa'nın arkasında bulunan 5 tepe ile Güneş ve Ay manzarasıyla dekore edilmiş bir Kore paravanıdır. Edebi anlamı "Güneş, Ay ve Beş Tepe'nin Resmi"dir. "Irwoldo" veya "Irwolgonryundo" da denir. Güneş ve Ay, Kral ve Kraliçeyi simgelerken; beş tepe ise Taoizm'in gizemli yerini ifade eder. Manzara, Joseon Kraliyet Sarayı'nın görkemini gösterir.

Resmin Tanıtımı
Resimde neredeyse kızıllaşmış bir güneş, bir dolunay, sarp beş tepe, dalga dalga akan hızlı iki akarsu ve tüm bunları saran iğne yapraklı bir çift ağaç görünüyor. Tang-chae (Çin renkleri) diye bilinen parlak renkler resmi suya dayanıklı hale getirebilmek için hayvan ve balık tutkalı ile sabitleştirilmiştir.

Simgelerin Anlamları
Eski zamanlardan beri Beş Tepe'nin resmedilme sebebini açıklayan bir belge bulunamamıştır. Seoul Kore Çalışmaları Akademisi'nden Sanat Tarihi Profesörü Dr. Yi Song-mi'nin buluşlarını Chadwick bildirir. Ona göre taht salonundaki parçaların en önemlilerinden biri bu resimlerdi. Bu resimler Joseon'un politikasını temsil ediyordu (Yin-Yang ve Beş Tepe Kuramı). "Neredeyse" kızıl güneş kralı, pozitif erkek ilkesi Yang'ı temsil eder. Beyaz ay, negatif kadın ilkesi Yin'i temsil eder. Bu iki ilke evren isleyişini simgeler.

Saray kayıtlarına göre bu resimlerden sürekli üretiliyordu. Bugün sadece 20 tanesi sağlam kalmıştır. Hiçbirinde imza yoktur. Resimlerin örnekleri Seoul'deki Gyeongbok Sarayı , Changdeok Sarayı ve Changgyeong Sarayı'nda görülebilir.

Irworobongdo is a Korean folding screen with a highly stylized landscape painting of a sun and moon, five peaks which always was set behind Eojwa, the king's royal throne during the Joseon Dynasty. It literally means "Painting of the Sun, Moon and the Five Peaks" and is also called "Irwoldo" or "Irwolgonryundo". The sun and moon symbolize the king and queen while the five peaks denotes a mythical place in Taoism. The screen serves to display the majesty of the Joseon royal court.

Description of the Image
The scene depicts a burning red sun, a full moon, five craggy peaks, and two fast-flowing streams with cascades, all flanked by a pair of conifers. The brilliant colours, known as tang-chae (Chinese colours), were fixed with either animal or fish glue, rendering the screens brilliant and water-fast.

Symbolic Significance
There are no existing documents from an early period to explain the original iconography of the Five Peaks. Chadwick reports the findings of Dr. Yi Song-mi, Professor of Art History at the Academy of Korean Studies in Seoul. He has suggested that these screens were one of the most important elements in the throne hall, and that this formalized landscape illustrates the Joseon political cosmology (the Theory of Yin and Yang and the Five Elements). The "almost" red sun represents the king as the yang, the positive male principle, while the white moon represents the queen as the yin, the negative female principle. These two principles make the universe work.

The Screens Can Be Seen At...
Palace records suggest that the screens were constantly being produced. Today however, only around twenty originals remain. None are signed. Examples of the screens can be seen at royal palaces in Seoul such as at Gyeongbok Palace, Changdeok Palace and Changgyeong Palace
