Hyundai Veloster, kompakt 3 kapılı aracın ilk üretimi 2011 yılında Hyundai Motor Şirketi tarafından üretilip 10 Mart 2011'de Güney Kore ile satışa başlanır ve Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'nde 2011'de ucuzlamasından bu yana satılır. Hyundai'nin yeni Premium Youth Lab alt markası genç nesil sürücüler için hedefin ilk örneğidir. 10 Ocak 2011 tarihinde Detroit Otomobil Fuarı'nda tanıtıldı ve Hyundai, 2008 model Tiburon'u durdurulduğu yılından sonraki zaman bıraktı boşluğu doldurmuş olur.

Kod adı HND-3, Hyundai'nin Dizayn ve Teknik Merkezi Namyang de üçüncü konsept araç tarzı oldu. 2.0-litre DOHC Theta sıralı 4 silindirli motor, 5 vitesli otomatik şanzıman içermektedir.

Aracın konsepti, 2007 Seoul Motor Fuarı'nda tanıtılması ile 11 Ocak tarihinde Detroit Otomobil Fuarı'nda son üretim modeli gösterime sokuldu.

The Hyundai Veloster is a compact 3-door car first produced in 2011 by the Hyundai Motor Company, with sales beginning in South Korea in March 10, 2011 and in the United States since the fall of 2011. It is the first of Hyundai's new Premium Youth Lab sub-brand, which is targeted for the young generation of drivers. It was unveiled on January 10, 2011, at the Detroit auto show, and fills the void left when Hyundai discontinued the Tiburon after the 2008 model year.

The car differs from many competitors with its asymmetrical door configuration, featuring one large door on the driver side and two on the passenger side. In the USA, the Veloster is equipped with BlueLink, a new telemetics system which will eventually be standard on all Hyundai models. The system is comparable to OnStar in GM vehicles, and provides customers with automatic crash notification, vehicle diagnostics, and remote control of vehicle features, among others.


HND-3 concept (2007)

Codenamed HND-3, it was the third concept car styled at Hyundai's Design and Technical Center at Namyang. It included 2.0-liter DOHC Theta inline 4-cylinder engine, 5-speed automatic transmission.

The car concept was unveiled in 2007 Seoul Motor Show, with the final production version released on January 11 at the Detroit Auto Show.

First generation (2011 – present)

In most of the world the production model uses a direct-injected 1.6 liter 138 hp (103 kW), 123 lb·ft (167 N·m) (@ 4,850 rpm) torque, 4-cylinder engine. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard while a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) with paddle shifters is available as an option. The DCT transmission was developed by Hyundai and is the first dual-clutch transmission from the company. Official EPA fuel economy numbers are 28 mpg-US (8.4 L/100 km; 34 mpg-imp) city, 40 mpg-US (5.9 L/100 km; 48 mpg-imp) highway and 32 mpg-US (7.4 L/100 km; 38 mpg-imp) combined for the manual while the dual clutch does 29 mpg-US (8.1 L/100 km; 35 mpg-imp) city, 38 mpg-US (6.2 L/100 km; 46 mpg-imp) highway and 32 mpg-US (7.4 L/100 km; 38 mpg-imp) combined. For some markets like the Middle East, Chile and Brazil, the car is offered without GDI making 128 hp.

Pricing starts at US$17,300, $23,990 AUD. There is also a $760 destination fee. In the United States 2 option packages are available, a style package and a tech package. Each package is $2000. Purchase of the tech package requires purchase of the style package as well. Options are not available outside the package, thus resulting in 3 trim levels: base, style, and tech. Each trim level is available with the DCT ($1250 option) or manual transmission.


2011 SEMA concepts (2011)

ARK Performance Veloster featured a twin scroll turbocharged engine rated 210hp, green paint scheme.

PM Lifestyle Veloster was developed by Universal Technical Institute. It includes Konig wheels, carbon fiber hood, a custom interior, increased engine power to 163-horsepower.

Hyundai Re:Mix Veloster Music Veloster is an audio-themed car with a full DJ deck setup installed in the trunk.

Re:Mix Gaming Veloster featured a video game theme, with an XBOX in place of the DJ booth.

RMR Global Rallycross Veloster is a race car built by Rhys Millen Racing for 2WD Rallycross race.

The Veloster Turbo was unveiled at the 2012 North American International Auto Show. Shown was a concept vehicle with special graphics package featuring a gray and yellow stripe running the length of the car, yellow trim on the front spoiler, side skirts and rear fascia, as well as a checkered flag theme on the side and roof spoiler, was unveiled in 2012 Chicago Auto Show.

The US model went on sale in summer 2012 as a 2013 model year vehicle, with the choice of either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission with Shiftronic.
