Ilk çikisini 1995 yilinda çocuk kitabi derlemeleri ile Newcomer ödülünü alarak yapmistir. Çikis çalismasi “My Kitty Guseul” adli kisa hikayedir. Ayni yil, orta uzunluktaki “A flower to plant in your heart” (Ma-eume Simneun Kkot), isimli romaniylar çiftçi literatürü ödülünü ardindan da 2003 yilinda "Capture the Orchard"(Gwasuwoneul Jeomnyeonghara) isimli kitabi ile Sejong çocuk kitaplari ödülünü almistir. "The Bad Boy Stickers"(Nappeun Eorini Pyo) ve "Lessons from an Ordinary Hen"(Madangeul Naon Amtak) isimli çalismalari onun Kore çocuk edebiyatinda bir yildiz gibi parlamasina sebep olmustur. Onun kitaplari çocuk hikayesi olmanin ötesinde evrensel hümanizmin takibindedir. Kore’de “peri masali” dönemi çocuklarin masum akillarini heyecanlandircak, gerçekten uzak, katiksiz ve naif hikayelerin birlesiminden olusmustur. Bununla birlikte Hwang hikayeleri gerçek yasamdan beslenmektedir. Günlük yasamdaki sorunlar onun çalismalarinin özünü olusturur. Siradan günlük yasamin sorunlarini hayat dolu bir üslüpla aktarmasi sebebiyle her yastan okuyucu tarafindan sevilerek takip edilmektedir.

English: Hwang Seon-mi (1963- ) is a children’s books writer who has opened a new chapter in children’s literature. Hwang has always had exceptional love for reading since childhood. When she was in elementary school, she used to stay at school until late in the evening just so that she could read books. After she finished elementary school, she decided not to continue her secondary school education. Instead, the girl, determined to become a writer, passed her high school equivalency exams and entered a creative writing program at university where she enrolled in serious writing classes.
Hwang made her debut in 1995 when she won the Newcomer Prize awarded by the Children’s Book Review. Her debut work was a short story “My Kitty Guseul.” In the same year, she won the Farmers’ Literature Award with her medium length novel A Flower to Plant in Your Heart (Ma-eume Simneun Kkot), followed by the Sejong Children’s Book Award in 2003 with Capture the Orchard (Gwasuwoneul Jeomnyeonghara). Her key works The Bad Boy Stickers (Nappeun Eorini Pyo) and Lessons from an Ordinary Hen (Madangeul Naon Amtak) established her as a new rising star in Korean children’s literature. Her books move beyond being just children’s stories by pursuing universal humanism. In Korea, the term “fairy tale” has more often than not been associated with pure and naïve stories that excite the minds of innocent children, that is, stories that were far removed from reality. However, our lives as they are in reality provide the nourishment for Hwang’s stories. The issues of everyday life lie at the core of her works. She continues to be loved by readers of all ages for her genial tackling of present-day issues through very ordinary tales of everyday life.
