Debut

Jo Youngmin and Jo Kwangmin had auditioned for JYP Entertainment, where they trained with the company for two years.[1] By their 100th day mark of being child actors, the boys had already appeared in over 300 commercials.
While in high school, Donghyun starred in Conduct Zero, a variety show where six rebellious high school students were made into exemplary students.
He was also in a Japanese group for a commercial.[citation needed]

No Minwoo was the first member of the group that was revealed. Released on March 22, 2011, he made a cameo in label mate K.Will's music video "Can't Open Up My Lips", along with established idol singers IU and MBLAQ's Lee Joon.
Two days later, Starship Entertainment revealed a photo of the identical twin brothers, Jo Youngmin and Jo Kwangmin.
It was also revealed that the two had previously served as K.Will's back-up dancers in the variety program Quiz That Changes the World in January 2011.
Before their debut, Boyfriend was featured on M! Pick, which revealed the course of their debut.
The group's first music video teaser, "Let's Get It Started", was released on May 20, 2011.
