Front-flap Hinged Clothing Chest With Gourd Design





Tek gözlü, dikdörtgen giyim sandığı, ön yüzünün yarıya kadar açılıp kapanabilmesini sağlayan kilitlere sahiptir. Sandık, anma törenlerinde rulo belgelerin, kitapların, kase, kap gibi gereçlerin muhafaza edilebileceği bir mobilya gibi de kullanılabilir. Üst yarısı sadece aşağı doğru çekilerek açılan kapak olarak kullanılır.

Oldukça dekoratif olan bu eser varlıklı bir ailenin hanımının odasında bulunabilecek bir mobilya parçası olarak düşünülebilir. Yelkovanın (ağaç) ahşap damarları cilalıdır. Üst, yan, ön ve alt levhalar zıvanalı desteklerdir ve destekler zıvanalanmak amacıyla kesitsel demir sabitlerle güçlendirilmiştir. Yarım ay şeklindeki kol, kilitin yanındaki kelebek tasarımının iki tarafında da kullanılmıştır. Kapılar, sukabağı tasarımlı menteşelerle birleştirilmiştir ve merkezdeki çıkıntılı kilitin iki yanında da iki simge(囍: mutluluk) bulunur. Ön panelin merkezine ise iki emaye paralel bir şekilde uygulanmıştır, sukabağı süslemesinin altında iki tane simgesel harf(囍) vardır. Emayeler ve harflerin arasında balık şekilli süslemeler bulunur. Yan panellerde sandığın taşınması için kullanılan kulplar bulunur.

Üst levha ve yan levhalarda bulunan kasımpatı tasarımı demirlere bağlanır: üçü yanda, dördü arkadadır. Hafif oymalı kalın çizgili ayak kalıpları, sukabağı tasarımıyla güzel bir uyum sağlar.

Rectangular single-story clothing chest with door plates (pulled to open) for opening and closing the top half of the front surface. The chests were also used as furniture for storing and keeping roll documents, books, brassware and vessels for memorial services. The half top of the front is only used for a door, which opens when pulled down.

The artifact is highly decorative and is considered to have been a piece of furniture in a wife’s room of a wealthy family. The wood grain of zelkova is lustrous from extended use. The top plate, the side plates, the front plate and the bottom plate are pillar tenoned, and reinforced with sectional iron fixtures for pillar tenoning. Half-moon shaped handles are affixed on both sides of the butterfly design next to the lock. The doors are connected with gourd-design hinges, and on both sides of the large center-protruded lock are two hee (囍: happiness) characters. On the center of the front panel are two cloisonnes in parallel, below the gourd-design decoration are two hee (囍) letters, and between the cloisonnes and the hee letters is a decoration in the shape of a fish. On the side panels are handles for moving the chest.

The top plate and the side plates are connected with chrysanthemum-design ironware: Three on the side, and four on the back. The leg bars with concave engraving of low, bold lines are well coordinated with the gourd design.
