18 Mayis 1995 tarihinde Kore'de modern sanayi gelisimine kömür endüstrisinin önemli katkisinin tarihsel degerini koruma amaçli, Chungnam kömür alaninda maden isçilerinin çabalari anisina açildi
Boryeong Kömür Müzesi Kore'deki ilk kömür müzesidir.
Kömür tüketimindeki hizli düsüs 1989 yilindan itibaren kömür sektöründe rasyonalizasyon eyleminin icra uyarinca kapali olarak ekonomik olmayan birçok neden oldu.

The rapid decrease in the consumption of coal since 1989 caused many of uneconomic mines to be closed pursuant to the execution of the coal industry rationalization act. The Boryeong Coal Museum is the first coal museum in Korea. It was opened on May 18, 1995 for the purposes of preserving the historical value of the coal industry's significant contribution to the development of the modern industries in Korea, commemorating the efforts of the mine workers in the Chungnam coal field, providing a learning space for the public by preserving and exhibiting reproduction of the mining sites, and displaying items that show the progress of the mining industry, work environments and systems.
