A Person Who Does His Filial Duty / Evlatlık Görevini Yapan Kişi
Bir zamanlar, kayınpederin evinde yaşayan genç bir çift vardı. Kayınpeder için ellerinden gelenin en iyisini yaparlardı; ancak o, her zaman yemeğin tadından, odanın sıcaklığından ve daha nice şeyden şikâyet eder dururdu. Buna rağmen, babalarına saygısızlık etmediler ve evlatlık görevlerini yaptılar.
Birgün, oğul para kazanmak üzere çok uzaklara gitti. Hanımı, kayınpederiyle ilgilenmeye devam etti. Eve gelen genç bir kadın: “Gidecek hiçbir yerim yok. Burada kalmama izin verirseniz, her türlü işinizi görürüm.”

Oğul birkaç sene sonra eve döndü. Selam vermek üzere babasının odasına gitti ve babasının yanında oturan kadını gördü. Babası oldukça iyi görünüyordu. Bu sebeple, bu hanımın kim olduğunu sordu.
“Kim o? Neden babamın yanında oturuyor? Babam neden bu kadar mutlu görünüyor?”
Eşi tüm soruları cevapladı.
Oğul, eşinin evlatlık görevlerini kendisinden daha iyi bildiğini ve yapabildiğini anladı. Eşinin önünde defalarca eğildi ve bu yaptığı için ona teşekkür etti. Babası da odasından ona bakıyordu ve:

A Person Who Does His Filial Duty
Once upon a time, a young couple were living with the husband's father. They did their best for him, but he always made complaints about the taste of the food, the temperature of his room, and so on. Nonetheless, they did not stop respecting him and doing their filial duty.
One day, the son went far away to earn money. His wife continued to take care of her father-in-law. One day a young woman came to this house and said
"I have nowhere to go. I'll do anything, if you can let me stay here."
The daughter-in-law thought that the woman was sincere; and so she let her stay only to find out that she cooked and sewed well. She thought that it would be better to let her take care of her father-in-law rather than to help her cook. She thus said to her
"Would you possibly take care of my father-in-law? For example, listen to his stories, make his bed, and so on."
The woman began to do those chores/ And, surprisingly, the father-in-law no longer made any complaints about food, temperature, or the like.
The son came back home in several years. He went to his father's room to say hi. He then saw a woman sitting beside his father. His father looked very well. So he asked his wife who the woman was.
"Who is she? Why is she sitting near my father? Why does he look so happy?"
The wife answered all his questions.
The son realised that his wife knew better than him about how to do filial duties to parents. He thus bowed to his wife again and again, and thanked for what she did. The father was looking at this from his room and said
"Good. Good. Well done! Nobody is better than her. Bow to such a faithful daughter-in-law for me too."
