Seoul’un gösteri sanatları merkezi Daehangno birçok aktör ve tiyatro-severe ev sahipliği yapıyor. Seoul muhiti, sokakları birbirine bağlayan 30 büyük ve küçük tiyatroyla eğlenebilmeniz için sizlere farklı bir masal sunuyor.

Sokakları dolduran uygun fiyatlı büyük lokantalar ve kafeler bu tiyatro bölgesini ziyaret etmek isteyenlere burayı daha da çekici kılıyor. Gösteri başlamadan önce sokaklar tiyatro-severlerle birbirine karışmış oyuncular ve diğer tiyatro çalışanlarıyla dolup taşarken, muhitin merkezinden 15 dakikalık bir yürüyüş ziyaretçileri şehrin en muhteşem manzaralarından birine sahip huzurlu Naksan Park’ına götürüyor.

Günün sonunda kendine gurme diyen bu muhabir öğle yemeğini, atıştırmalığını ve akşam yemeğini yiyip bir fincan inci çayı içerek karnı yeterince doydu. Ve bunların hepsi kendisine 12.600 won’a ($11.61) mal oldu.

Gün boyunca hem galeriyi ziyaret etti hem de bir oyun izledi. Bu ise kendisine sadece 9.000 won’a mal oldu.



13.00 Vietnam Noodle’ı

Galeri IANG, restorandan 10 dakikalık uzaklıktaki Lotte Mart’ın bodrum katında yer alıyor. Muhabir buraya 2 Şubat’ta geldiğinde iki sergi gösterimdeymiş. Salon 3’te “Full Fist Feminism” adlı sergide radikal feminizm temalı çalışmalar sergileniyordu.

Ancak galeri her hafta yeni sergiler düzenlediği için bu sergiler çok uzun sürmüyor. 7-13 Şubat tarihleri arasında Seo Ihn-soo’nun “Flowers in Time” adlı bir fotoğraf illüstrasyon sergisi, 7-12 Şubat tarihleri arasında da C Fashion Pattern Okulu’nun “2019 Trend CAD Pattern” adlı bir moda sergisi düzenlenmiş.

Galeri IANG’ı gezindikten sonra muhabir başka bir galeriye, IEUM Center’a, yönelmiş. Kendisi ücret almayan diğer bir galeri. Galeri her ay genellikle üç sergi düzenliyor.

IEUM Center’dan birkaç adım uzaklıkta bulunan diğer ünlü bir galeri, Arko Art Center. Ünlü mimar Kim Swoo-geun galeriyi 1979 yılında inşa etmiş ve o zamandan beri kırmızı tuğlalı bu bina Daehangno’nun sembolü olmuştur.

Ancak Arko Art Center Şubat ayı için hiç sergi düzenlememiş. Bir sonraki sergisi “The Korean Pavilion of the Venice Architecture Biennale” 18 Mart’ta gösterime çıkmıştır.

15.30 Tiyatro

Boş sanat evlerine uğradıktan sonra hayal kırıklığını hafifletmek için bir oyun izlemek ümidiyle Top Art Salonuna doğru devam etti. Tiyatro, Miss Saigon sokağının karşısında yer alıyor.

Salona doğru giderken Marronier Park’taki gişelerden 9.000 won’a bir bilet satın aldı. Bilet gişeleri Daehangno sokaklarının birkaç noktasında mevcut ve Hyehwa İstasyonunun 1. veya 2. Çıkışının yanında bilet satan bazı kişiler görebilirsiniz. Biletlere internet üzerinden Interpark Ticket’tan da ulaşabilirsiniz.

Muhabir, Ocak 2009’da sahnelenmeye başladığından bu yana en popüler yapımlardan biri olmuş “Secret” adlı oyunu izledi. Oyun bir psikiyatri hastanesindeki Lee Gwang-nam ve Jang Seong-nam adlarındaki iki hasta, Jin Seon-mi adlı bir hemşire ve Seo In-young adlı bir doktorun etrafında dönüyor. Lee ve Jang’ın hastalıkları yüzünden düzenli tedaviye ihtiyaçları olduğu açık olsa da sıkıntılarının nedeni oyunun sonuna kadar açığa çıkarılmıyor. Oyunun adından da anlaşılacağı üzere hastalıklarının arkasındaki sır nihayet son sahnede gün yüzüne çıkıyor.

Oyuna izleyicilerin dahil olması ve onları oyundaki karakterlere dönüştürmesi bakımından benzersiz bir oyun. Oyun izleyicilere kendileri için en önemli değerlerin ne olduğunu düşünerek tiyatrodan ayrılacaklarını vaad ediyor.



17.00 Naksan Park

Oyun bittikten sonra muhabir biraz boş hissetti ve yiyecek bir şeyler bulmak için etrafı dolaştı. Sokağın köşesinde uzun bir sıra gözüne takılıverdi. İnsanlar Hotteokdang adındaki küçük bir dükkanın önünde hotteok (Kore tarzı kızartılmış ve içi bal ve fındıkla doldurulmuş pankek) almak için sırada bekliyorlardı.

Kalın ve yuvarlanmış hotteokların fiyatı 1.000 won ve bir bardak çay veya kahve isteyenler bunun için ekstra olarak 1.500 won ödeyebilirler. Bunun yanı sıra hotteok soğuk bir günde sıcak bir atıştırmalık oluveriyor.

Daha sonra Naksan Park’ın tepesinde gün batımını seyretmek üzere parkın girişini bulmak için sokağa yöneldi. Park dağın tepesinde bulunduğu için bu müthiş manzarayı görmek isteyenler oldukça dik olan merdivenleri tırmanmaya hazırlıklı olmalılar.

Naksan Park sizlere şehrin büyüleyici panoramik manzarasını sunuyor ve güneşin battığı tarafta bulunan N Seoul Tower’ın net manzarasıyla tamamlanıyor.

Bu park şehrin eski ve modern kısımları bir arada olduğundan dolayı Instagram kullananlar açısından fotoğraf çekmek için iyi bir nokta. Dağın zirvesine çıkarken birileri, Seoul Şehir Duvarı’nın (Hanyangdoseong) bir kısmını oluşturan eski hisar duvarını görebilir. Bu duvar şehri işgallerden korumak amacıyla Joseon Hanedanlığı zamanında inşa edilmiştir. Baekak, Heunginjimun, Namsan ve Sungnyemun gibi dört farklı yerden de görülebiliyor.

Park, dizi yapımcılarının romantik bir buluşma gerçekleştiren bir çiftin sahnesi açısından da favori bir yer. Parkın gece görünüşünü gözler önüne seren güzel sahneler için MBC dizisi “Angry Mom”a (2015) ve SBS dizisi “The Girl Who Sees Smells”e (2015) göz atabilirsiniz.

18.00 Tofu çorbası

Muhabir akşam yemeği için Miss Saigon’a geri dönüp yakınlardaki Chaesundang Happy Pot’u aradı. Bu restoran sizlere demir kazanda pişirilmiş pilav olarak bilinen sıcak gamasotbap servis ediyor, hem de uygun fiyatla.

Menüdeki en ucuz yiyecekler 4.900 won olan sundubu jigae (yumuşak tofu güveci) ve tuna kimchi jigae. Fiyata sıcacık Solomon’s Seal Çayı ve sınırsız banchan (geleneksel Kore yemeklerinde yaygın olarak servis edilen küçük mezeler) da dahil. Gamasot’dan yapılan pilavı yedikten sonra çayı kaseye dökerek kaynatılmış ve kavrulmuş pirinçten yapılan geleneksel Kore tatlısı sungnyung’dan yaptı.

Tıpkı Vietnam restoranı gibi bu restoran da self-servis hizmeti sunuyor.

19.00 İnci Çayı

Happy Pot’tan 10 dakika kadar uzaklıkta yer alan Amasvin, Hyehwa İstasyonunun 4. Çıkışında bulunan bir inci çayı şubesidir. Dükkanda çok oturacak yer olmasa da birçok insan buraya uğrayıp içecek satın alıyor.

En sevilen kivili inci çayı sadece 2.800 won. Menüdeki en ucuz içecek olsa da dükkan taze meyve suyu yapmak adına şurupla birlikte karışıma gerçek kivileri de ekliyor.

Kahve sevenler için ise dükkan başka sıcak içeceklerin yanı sıra Americano ve latte satıyor.

Seoul’s hub of performing arts, Daehangno, is home to many actors and theater lovers. The central Seoul neighborhood is packed with 30 large and small theaters that line the streets, each offering a different tale to enjoy.

Great eateries and cafes with affordable prices fill the streets, making this region even more attractive for those looking to make a day out of a visit to the theater district. While the streets are crowded with theatergoers, actors and crew members mingling before shows start, a 15-minute walk from the center of the district takes visitors to the peaceful Naksan Park, which offers one of the city’s most spectacular views.

At the end of the day, this reporter, who calls herself a gourmand, was satisfied after eating a lunch, a snack, a dinner and a cup of bubble tea - all of which she enjoyed for a total of 12,600 won ($11.61).

Throughout the day, she enjoyed both a visit to a gallery and a play, which only set her back 9,000 won.



1 P.M. Vietnamese noodleS

The first place this reporter visited was Vietnamese restaurant Miss Saigon, to fill up her stomach before doing anything else. The eatery is located about 250 meters (0.15 of a mile) away from Hyehwa Station, exit 2.

Forget the dishes that cost 8,000 won or more, because each of the four main dishes - beef pho, chicken pho, saigon fried pho, or saigon fried rice - is less than 4,000 won. A bowl of beef pho offered the perfect amount of flavor and quality to soothe any rumbling stomach.

The secret behind the cheap menu is that the restaurant operates on a self-service system. You order the food at a touch-screen, self-service kiosk that accepts both cash and cards. When the chef calls out your number, you need to pick up the dish yourself. And when you are finished, returning the dishes is your responsibility as well.

2 P.M. Art galleries

After finishing up a bowl of noodles, this reporter headed towards Gallery IANG to help burn some calories. Located a little farther than the main streets of Daehangno, the gallery is one of the 10 or so museums in the neighborhood. What makes it worth the walk is the free admission.

Less than 10 minutes away from the restaurant, in the basement underneath a Lotte Mart is Gallery IANG. When this reporter visited on Feb. 2, two exhibitions were ongoing. In Hall 3 were artworks revolving around the theme of radical feminism, under the title “Full Fist Feminist.”

However, these exhibitions are no longer up as the gallery changes its exhibitions every week. From Feb. 7 to Feb. 13, there will be a photo illustration exhibition titled “Flowers in Time” by Seo Ihn-soo, and from Feb. 7 to Feb. 12, a fashion exhibition titled “2019 Trend CAD Pattern” by C Fashion Pattern School will be on display.

After taking a look around Gallery IANG, this reporter headed to another gallery, the IEUM Center, another place that offers free exhibitions. The gallery usually offers three exhibitions each month.

A few steps from IEUM Center is a famous gallery, the Arko Art Center. The prominent architect Kim Swoo-geun built the gallery in 1979, and ever since, the red brick building has been a symbol of Daehangno.

However, the center doesn’t offer any exhibitions at the moment. The next exhibition, “The Korean Pavilion of the Venice Architecture Biennale” is scheduled to kick off on March 18.

3:30 P.M. Theater

To ease the disappointment after stopping by empty art houses, this reporter continued on to the Top Art Hall to watch a play. The theater is located across the street from the Miss Saigon location.

On the way to the Hall, she bought a ticket for 9,000 won from the booths that are located in Marronier Park. Ticket booths are available in several spots in the streets of Daehangno, and some of the tickets salespeople can be found near exit 1 or 2 of Hyehwa Station. Tickets are also available online at Interpark Ticket.

This reporter watched the play “Secret,” which has been one of the most popular productions in the area since it debuted in January 2009. The play revolves around two patients, Lee Gwang-nam and Jang Seong-nam, a nurse named Jin Seon-mi and a doctor named Seo In-young, who are all at a psychiatric hospital. Although it is clear that Lee and Jang need regular medical treatments due to their illness, the reason why they are suffering is not revealed until the end. The secret behind their illness referred to in the title of the show is finally divulged in the last scene.

The play is unique in that it includes members of the audience and makes them characters in the show, who will leave the theater thinking about what values are most important to them.



5 P.M. Naksan park

After the play ended, this reporter felt a bit empty and walked around to find something to eat. On the corner of the street, a long line caught her eye. It turned out that the people were waiting to get hotteok, Korean-style fried pancakes filled with honey and nuts, at a small shop called Hotteokdang.

A thick and round hotteok costs 1,000 won and those who want a cup of tea or coffee can pay an extra 1,500 won. Together, it makes for a warm snack on a cold day.

After that, in order to check out the sunset at the top of Naksan Park, head up the street to find the entrance of the park. Because the park is located on a mountain, those who wish to see the quality view should be prepared to climb up a pretty steep set of stairs.

The top of Naksan Park offers a magnificent panoramic view of the city, complete with a clear view of N Seoul Tower in the west, where the sun sets.

For those who use Instagram, this park is a good spot for a photo, as it is where old and modern parts of the city coexist. On the way up to the top of the mountain, one can see the old fortress wall that makes up a portion of Hanyangdoseong, or the Seoul City Wall. It was built during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910) to protect the city from invasion. The wall can also be seen in four other places in central Seoul - Baekak, Heunginjimun, Namsan and Sungnyemun.

The park is also a favorite place for drama producers to film scenes of a couple while out on a date. Check out the MBC drama “Angry Mom” (2015) and the SBS TV series “The Girl Who Sees Smells” (2015) to catch beautiful scenes capturing a night view of the park.

6 P.M. Tofu soup

For dinner, head back down to Miss Saigon and look for Chaesundang Happy Pot, which is nearby. The restaurant offers warm gamasotbap, rice cooked in an iron cauldron, for a reasonable price.

The cheapest items on the menu are sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew) and tuna kimchi jjigae, which cost 4,900 won each. The price includes a warm Solomon’s Seal Tea and unlimited banchan, the small side dishes that are commonly served during traditional Korean meals. After finishing up the rice from the gamasot, pour the tea into the bowl to make sungnyung, a traditional Korean desert made from boiled scorched rice.

Just like the Vietnamese restaurant, this eatery runs on a self-service system.

7 P.M. Bubble tea

Located a 10-minute walk from Happy Pot is Amasvin, a bubble tea franchise by exit 4 of Hyehwa Station. Although there are not many seats available in the store, many people stop by and grab a drink to take with them.

A favourite is the kiwi-blended bubble tea that costs just 2,800 won. Even as the cheapest beverage on the menu, the store blends in actual kiwis along with additional syrup, creating a fresh fruit juice.

For those who love coffee, the shop sells Americanos and lattes in addition to other hot beverages.
