Spring Seasons

Ipchun (Feb. 4th): This is the first of the 24 Jeol-gi. It symbolizes the new year, so people often write ‘Ipchun daegil’ (Good fortune in spring) on a piece of paper and attach it to a prominent place in the house.

Woosoo (Feb. 19th): The spring rains on Wosoo encourage plants to start growing again.

Gyungchip (Mar. 6th): This is the season in which frogs wake up from their winter sleep. There is also a custom of eating frog’s eggs at this time, to cure lower backaches.

Chunboon (Mar. 21st): From this time of solstice, days become longer than nights, signifying that winter is really over, and warmer days are coming.

Chungmyung (Apr. 5th): Farmers start to prepare the rice farming.

Gokwoo (Apr. 20th): There is a saying that ‘If it doesn’t rain on Gokwoo, then the rice harvest will be very bad that year".
