Foreign tourists flock to Nami Island

A flock of foreign tourists look around ice sculptures in Nami Island in Chuncheon, 85km east of Seoul, on Feb. 8. The island has become popular to foreign tourists since 2002 when the popular South Korean TV drama “Winter Sonata” was filmed there. It is one of the major tourist spots in Korea representing “Hallyu”, or Korean Wave, refering to the popularity of South Korean pop culture in many parts of Asia. About one-fourth of the 130,000 visitors to the island so far this year were foreighers.
